Johnny Depp has officially won the defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard and this has led to fans celebrating the Edward Scissorhands actor's success in the past week. Interestingly, Depp has supporters with connections who expect great things for the screen legend. For instance, a former Disney executive believes that Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Disney had famously removed Johnny Depp from Pirates of. the Caribbean 6 following the controversy brought on by the actor's messy divorce from Amber Heard. However, the House of Mouse could take back its decision to fire Depp and possibly negotiate for Jack Sparrow's return in a new project for the franchise.
An anonymous former Disney executive told People that Depp could be brought back into Pirates of the Caribbean, thanks to the strong backing of producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
"I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board," the executive said. "There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises."
Interestingly, Jerry Bruckheimer had previously offered hope for Depp's return in Pirates of the Caribbean. When asked if there was any chance that Johnny Depp will return to the franchise, Bruckheimer had said, "Not at this point." He then added that "The future is yet to be decided."
For now, Johnny Depp doesn't have any major projects lined up in his future. However, it wouldn't be a surprise if the former Fantastic Beasts star gets new offers before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
