John Wick 4 Gets Promising Update From Director, Who Seemingly Greenlit John Wick 5

There's no denying that Keanu Reeves' John Wick is a standout in the assassin action genre. Since its debut in 2014, the franchise developed two more sequels: John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum. More amazingly, John Wick Chapter 4 was officially greenlit in August 2020 after the triumphant box office receipts of the two consecutive John Wick films.

John Wick Chapter 4 is Almost Done, According to Director Chad Stahelski

Although fans are still in the dark about what the film will be all about, director Chad Stahelski – who helmed a total of three John Wick films is returning to direct John Wick Chapter 4 and recently shared a promising update about the film's development. In an interview with Collider, he revealed that the film is "essentially done" and will have the longest runtime compared to the previous films. See Chad Stahelski's statement below:

“It's longer than the other three, but not that long. We're on the final stretch for picture lock, and then we have our VFX music. But this is the furthest along I've ever been, this much in post. We love the music that we've got so far. We still have Tyler Bates doing the composition on some of the bigger sequences. VFX are going to be coming in throughout the rest of the year. But we're dangerously close. In our edit, as far as our picture lock goes, we're within a few minutes of locking. Our sequences are done. The movie is essentially done. There's probably another few weeks of tweaking overall, then we lock picture, and we're about music sound and the effects.”

Director Chad Stahelski Addresses John Wick 5 Possibility

In a previous interview with Collider, Stahelski got a little bit candid about the franchise's future after John Wick Chapter 4. According to him, he is still uncertain about when the franchise is going to end, but as long as the fans' demands persist, he is open to doing more.

"[As of right] now it is the studio's [full] intention to continue the franchise. And look, I'm not going to we've all seen directors and producers where they go, "Yes. I don't know. I guess I'll do five," or it's like, "Oh, yeah, yeah." And I'm just, "Look, man. 'John Wick 1' was a goof. We made it as a fun little action movie that we'd like to see." And the fact that now nine years later, it's changed our lives. It changed my life. It changed Keanu's life. It's changed a lot of other people's lives. And people still want to see more."

It's certainly delightful to know that John Wick Chapter 4 is nearly done. However, the box office receipts along with the fans' enthusiasm will still dictate whether the franchise will continue with John Wick 5.
