Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista is known for being a pretty straightforward guy who is never shy about speaking his mind even if it meant sacrificing the public's perception of him. Over the last couple of months, his attitude has been rubbing a lot of people the wrong way and it's all thanks to his controversial take on a possible team-up project with his former colleagues in the world of professional wrestling.

During the promotions of his Netflix film Army of the Dead, "The Animal" was asked on more than one occasion if he's down to working with fellow WWE alumni Dwayne Johnson and John Cena but shockingly enough, the former WWE world champion wants to distance himself from the two.

Now, Cena is finally breaking his silence months after Dave's controversial statement. In an interview with Esquire, the star of DC's The Suicide Squad admitted that he felt upset over Bautista's comments but at the end of the day, he totally gets where he's coming from. He explains: "Yeah, man I'm super sad about that because Dave Bautista is an unbelievably gifted actor."

John continued: "He's done some amazing work. But I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try and look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft and he is so dedicated to his characters and really wants to put forth a body of work that gives him his own identity. I 100% understand that."

People are taking his comments the wrong way but Bautista obviously doesn't see himself as a box office attraction unlike Johnson and Cena and to be perfectly honest, I see nothing wrong with that. To be fair to Big Dave himself though, his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already makes him a successful mainstream star in his own right but I guess he was never fond of that aspect and would rather be remembered as a good actor who starred in projects that are much more complex.

Speaking of the MCU, Dave Bautista is set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
