Following The Last Jedi's premiere two years ago, it wasn't exactly received well by everyone, with the backlash still being evident on social media. The movie still proves to be divisive, but not just among Star Wars fans, but with some of the cast members as well.
In a recent interview with THR's Hollywood Remixed podcast, The Rise of Skywalker star John Boyega shares more of his thoughts regarding Rian Johnson's film. "What I was excited by was, I liked the idea of Rian having his own take on something that was quite important." He was also "excited" with the idea of challenging the characters, being separated and trying to get to each other.
However, the actor admitted that "they could have done better with it," especially with the story between his character, Finn, as well as Kelly Marie Tran's Rose Tico. "You know, as a black person, you're going to feel a big type of weight," he added.
Boyega continued, "You had nothing to do with Rey and Kylo…. The story just wasn't here for me with Finn and Rose." That being said, he did make it clear that he enjoyed filming it, and that he didn't actually notice this on set. "It was only when I watched it," the actor said. "But I enjoyed the experience of making it."
This isn't the first time he has expressed his thoughts on the movie. In a previous interview, Boyega also admitted that he felt "a bit iffy" with The Last Jedi. He also said that he didn't "necessarily agree with a lot of choices" in the film.
Star Wars fans would definitely see more of Finn in Episode IX along with the sequel heroes as they embark on an adventure to defeat the First Order together.
