Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who Debut Enjoys Record-Breaking Ratings And Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

Doctor Who fans are loving Jodie Whittaker's take on the new Doctor. Not only has Doctor Who enjoyed a wave of some of the best reviews the series has experienced during its modern run, but it looks like the British science-fiction television program just experienced its strongest premiere ratings for a brand new Doctor.

Variety has the new numbers for Doctor Who, and according to the publication, season 11 of the series gathered an average of 8.2 million viewers during the show's new time slot, the total numbers peaking to around 9 million.

BBC moved the show from its traditional Saturday time slot to a Sunday evening airing in Britain, however, the new schedule in no way slowed Whittaker's debut down.

With all the charm and strange pizzaz of a Time Lord, Whittaker wowed audiences last weekend with her pilot episode The Woman Who Fell To Earth.

Now, it seems like the numbers for her premiere as the 13th Doctor have surpassed Capaldi's debut (gathered around 6.8 million viewers) as well as the premiere for Matt Smith (7.7 million viewers) and David Tennant (8 million viewers).

But that's not all. Critics have been heaping a whole lot of great reviews for The Woman Who Fell To Earth, gushing on and on about the actress' portrayal of the Doctor with many saying that Whittaker has proven that the Time Lord taking on the female form fits just fine for the franchise.

We hope that Whittaker sustains this energy and hype all throughout her time as the new Doctor Who.

Doctor Who season 11's next episode The Ghost Museum drops on BBC America at 8pm/7c.
