Some Doctor Who Viewers Outside UK Can't Understand The Accents in The Season 11 Premiere

The distinctly Northern feel to Sunday night's Doctor Who Season 11 premiere was a welcome revelation for many British viewers but it seems that some viewers outside of the U.K. struggled to understand the Yorkshire accents in the new episode, which was set in Sheffield and starred Jodie Whittaker, who plays the Thirteenth Doctor, speaking in her native twang.

The warning signs came when American subtitlers recently struggled to decipher Whittaker's accent during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

On Sunday night, some viewers were forced to rely on the subtitles.

"Loved the show, but my American hubby kept asking me what she was saying," one viewer said. "Guess we'll be adding in the subtitles."

"I haven't watched British television in a while so I had to turn the subtitles on," another viewer said on Twitter.

Of course, some Yorkshire residents were proud of the show's strong accents:
