Joaquin Phoenix Will Treat Joker Film Like ‘Any Other Movie’

With DC's cinematic future after the failure of Justice League called into question, there has been a lot of excitement over the rumored Joker film that will be produced by Martin Scorsese. Acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix has been rumored to play the infamous role but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Phoenix was actually asked about this by Fandango and he gave a fairly interesting answer. The actor claimed that he didn't know but did say that Joker was an interesting character. He supposedly gave a mischievous grin when saying this, so take that as you will.

"I don't know… it could be an interesting character, I don't know."

The actor also went into more detail on what he wants from the role. Apparently, he will treat it like any other movie, hoping that the character he plays and the filmmaker directing him will meet his standards.

"I see it as any other movie. I won't do Westerns." It depends on what it is. I don't really care about the genre, I care about the character and the filmmaker. If you have the ability to transcend the genre, then that's what you want to do. So I wouldn't say, hands down, no – I wouldn't do that kind of movie. There are things where I've flirted with the possibility where there was the potential for this to be… something that's actually interesting to me. But then for whatever reason they never got to that place where everyone else feels the same way. And that's key. Everyone has to want to explore the same thing or else it just doesn't f**king work. I'm not opposed to it. I don't make decisions on budget or things like that – it's really the filmmaker and the character."

DC has yet to announce anything concrete about the rumored Joker movie but it would be great if Warner Bros. could get an actor like Phoenix to portray the Batman villain. Add Scorsese's involvement and we might have a solution to the current DC slump.
