J.K. Rowling Praises Harry Potter Fans Who Supported Her Controversial Transgender Views

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been a divisive figure for years thanks to her controversial views on the transgender community which is viewed as transphobic and she has been called a TERF (an acronym for trans exclusionary radical feminist). However, she has also surprisingly received some support despite the massive backlash.

As reported by Deadline, in the latest episode of The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling podcast, Rowling shared her reaction to the backlash that she received from her controversial views. "I knew it was going to cause a massive storm," she said.

However, the author also claimed that she still received support from some Harry Potter fans even though we have heard that a lot of people in the fandom were disappointed and frustrated by Rowling's views and have questioned whether they can continue supporting the property.

"A ton of Potter fans were still with me. And, in fact, a ton of Potter fans were grateful for what I said," Rowling said.

She also explained that the backlash has also impacted her as she has feared for her own safety and her family as well.

"Personally, it has not been fun and I have been scared at times for my own safety and, overwhelmingly, for my family’s safety," she shared. "Time will tell whether I’ve got this wrong. I can only say that I’ve thought about it deeply and hard and long and I’ve listened, I promise, to the other side.

Despite all of that, the author iterated that she still has no regrets and continues to stand by her comments even if it's highly controversial and the majority disagrees about them.

"I stand by every word that I wrote there, but the question is, What is the truth? And I’m arguing against people who are literally saying sex is a construct," she said.
