J.J. Abrams' Spider-Man Comic is Finally Ending This October

When it was announced that J.J. Abrams and Henry Abrams would be writing a new Spider-Man comic book, simply called Spider-Man, fans were intrigued. J.J. has directed Star Trek and Star Wars movies that have gotten mixed reactions while his son Henry hasn't really done that much but we were still interested in seeing what the father and son duo were capable of.

Sadly, what we got was a fairly mediocre tale that didn't deserve to simply be called Spider-Man and we're happy that the series is ending with Spider-Man #5.

That might sound a bit harsh and even hard to believe since this series has been plagued by a number of delays but the Marvel October 2020 solicitations (via Newsarama) have confirmed that Spider-Man #5 is coming out that month. Ben Parker and his dad, good old Peter Parker, are seemingly down for the count but if you know Spider-Man, that character doesn't give up.

Admittedly, when you consider how this comic book was received, fans aren't holding their breath. Once again, harsh, but there's a little bit of truth to that statement.

J.J. ABRAMS & HENRY ABRAMS (W) • SARA PICHELLI (A) • Cover by OLIVIER COIPEL
VARIANT COVER BY SARA PICHELLI - NOV190912
MARVELS X VARIANT COVER BY JAVIER RODRIGUEZ - NOV190911
• Ben Parker and his dad are cornered and surely beaten.
• Their allies weren't enough and the son of Mary Jane and Spider-Man has an unwinnable fight on his hands…
• Did his absentee dad and dead mother teach him enough to know what Spider-Man does in these situations?

If Henry Abrams plans to continue working on comic books, we're interested in seeing how he improves. His work on Spider-Man isn't horrible but the comic doesn't stand out at all and the fact that Marvel hyped it up so much still puts a rotten taste in our mouth.

Spider-Man #5 is coming out this October.
