JJ Abrams Knows He Can't Please Every Star Wars Fan With The Rise of Skywalker

JJ Abrams is responsible for two of the three Star Wars movies for the current trilogy, starting with The Force Awakens and returning for The Rise of Skywalker, which takes place after Rian Johnson's controversial The Last Jedi. Considering how there were also fans who were critical of The Force Awakens, with a number of us thinking it felt too similar to A New Hope, it's clear that you can't please everyone.

Abrams is more aware of this than we know, admitting to Marvelous TV during D23 that he is grateful for all Star Wars fans but made it clear that he can't please everyone. People are just wired to think differently and that can't be helped, which is why The Last Jedi continues to be the most divisive film in recent memory.

"You just have to be grateful for them, because you don't want to be working on something no-one cares about. And you have to understand that they've got their opinions and, of course, you have to value them. You're never going to please everyone, you have to know that going in, and just do the best you can. I'm nothing but thankful as someone who considers myself a fan. I can't wait for them to see the film."

So yeah, you can't please everyone. That doesn't mean you can't go into Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and not be excited. This is why it's always best to have lowered expectations since you never know what you're going to get. Personally, I find it humorous how The Force Awakens was criticized for being too similar to A New Hope while The Last Jedi was lambasted for being too different. Make up your minds guys.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out on December 20.
