Jessica Jones Director Named For Game Of Thrones Prequel Along With The New Cast

HBO is gearing up to release the eight season of Game of Thrones this year and now that the fantasy epic is down to its last batch of episodes, it looks like the network's started working on the show's upcoming prequel series.

According to a new report by Deadline, HBO just named the director of the first episode of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel as well as the regular cast of the series. The Defenders and Jessica Jones episode director S.J. Clarkson has just been tapped to serve as the show's executive producer as well as the helmsman of the prequels first episode.

Of course, Game of Thrones fans already knows that the script for the pilot is being written by Jane Goldman as well as A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R.Martin. Meanwhile, HBO decided to recruit Clarkson for the pilot once her schedule opened up for new projects.

Aside from Clarkson, HBO has also named the full cast of the series. Previously, the network only had two stars attached to the project – Noami Watts and Josh Whitehouse. Now they have a full set of series regulars for the Game of Thrones prequel.

This includes Naomie Ackie from Lady Macbeth and Yardie, Denise Gough from People as well as Places and Things, Jamie Campbell Bower from The Twilight saga and the Mortal Instrument: City of Bones, Shelia Atim from Girl from the North Country, Ivanno Jeremiah from Doctor Who, Georgie Henley from The Chronicles of Narnia, Alex Sharp from How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and Tony Regbo from The Last Kingdom.

Many of these actors might not be household names, but HBO didn't hire big names for Game of Thrones either.

The Game of Thrones prequel series doesn't have a release date yet but we'll update everyone once we get word.
