Jeremy Irons Joins The Pilot Episode Of HBO’s Watchmen Series

The pilot of HBO's Watchmen just nabbed Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons.

Though Deadline doesn't have any details about what role Irons is going to play in Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series, the publication says that the English actor is going to take on the role of "an aging and imperious lord of a British manor."

That's a level up from the role Iron's played in the DC Extended Universe – acting as Batman's (Ben Affleck) Butler in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in Justice League. Watchmen is going to mark the DCEU's return to the small screen after years of focusing on film. The last role the actor had in television was his Emmy Award-winning role in the historical drama The Borgias which aired on Showtime from 2011 till 2013.

There haven't been that many details about what Lindelof has planned for his version of The Watchmen, but the director has made it pretty clear that he won't be doing a panel by panel television adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

According to Lindelof, the comics written by Moore and Gibbons are "sacred ground" that shouldn't be "retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted." Because of the director's respect for the source material, the Watchmen television adaptation's official description reads "Set in an alternate history where ‘superheroes' are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own."

The Watchmen series doesn't have a release date yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
