Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters 2020 will 'Hand the Movie Back to the Fans'

It's no mystery that Ghostbusters 2016 was a big flop, and Sony has decided to remedy this by moving forward with a more faithful reboot to the original franchise. Jason Reitman is set to direct Ghostbusters 2020, and he talks a bit about his approach to the film.

Talking during Bill Burr's MondayMorningPodcast, Reitman explains:

"This is going to be a love letter to Ghostbusters,… I love this franchise. I grew up watching it. I consider myself the first ‘Ghostbusters' fan. I was like seven years old when that movie came out and I love it. I want to make a movie for my fellow ‘Ghostbusters' fans."

When the 2016 film rolled in, it was heavily bashed for numerous reasons, the least of which had anything to do with the cast being all women. Personally, the movie was just awful to me, and a franchise as big as Ghostbusters definitely deserved better.

While Reitman himself has developed his own style of directing apart from his father, he does go on to say that his movie will not be the "Juno of Ghostbusters." Reitman wants his film to feel like a faithful follow-up to the first two movies, and he says, "We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans."

It's worth noting that original director Ivan Reitman is also attached as producer for the movie, so we could say that Ghostbusters 2020 is in good hands.

We don't know when the next update for the film will be, but everyone is hopeful it will be the sequel we were all hoping for.
