Espinosa pointed to a specific scene where Leto's character, Michael Morbius, locks himself in a room and resists his hunger for human blood. Director Daniel Espinosa told Variety, "I got scared for Jared." "He really commits. You have to watch out for it." Another scene had Morbius breaking some glass. "I could sense the crew backed off," Espinosa recalls of the incident. "It was a bit spooky."

While Espinosa worries about Leto's over-commitment to the role, Espinosa believes that only Leto can flawlessly pull Morbius. "He really commits. You have to watch out for it." Another scene had Morbius breaking some glass. "I could sense the crew backed off," Espinosa recalls of the incident. "It was a bit spooky." the director said.

Espinosa then explained how the film isn't originally a villain origin story. In Marvel Comics, Morbius is originally a villain for Peter Parker's Spiderman but had a change of heart and sides with Parker in the end. For live-action Morbius, Espinosa believes that the character should not be seen as a villain, the character's vampirism was a terrible accident for finding a cure not just for him, but for humankind. Espinosa explains, "He has to accept the ugliness he has within him, and that there's something beautiful about it. It will be his strength, what makes him unique."

Sony's Morbius is a potential addition to the Spiderverse that the MCU is currently developing. First created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Michael Morbius is a scientist afflicted with a rare blood disease, Morbius seeks out an unconventional way to cure his disease, which accidentally leaves him a form of vampirism. The vampirism gave Morbius superhuman abilities, superhuman senses, but all of these come with the curse of craving human blood.

As revealed from the recent trailer, Jared Leto's Morbius already looks promising. Its good to see how Jared Leto was given another chance to portray another comic book character, after his Joker portrayal in the DC Universe was met with harsh criticism from the fans and critics.

Jared Leto's Morbius will hit the big screens on April 1.
