As evidenced by DC's multiple developments of the Criminal Clown Prince of Gotham City throughout the years, DC is never far away from bringing any version of the Joker into the big screens. With Heath Ledger setting a gold standard for the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, playing the clown villain now comes with heavy pressure from the audience. While Joaquin Phoenix and Barry Keoghan's Joker got praised by critics for bringing their unique version of the villain in the DC Universe, another Joker star remains hopeful in reprising his role as the Joker, and that is no other than Jared Leto.

Jared Leto first appeared as the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, with a less than 10 minutes total appearance. Fortunately, the star had the chance to reprise his role as the Joker in 2021's Zack Snyder's Cut of Justice League but also appeared as a cameo during the film's last scene, teasing more future appearances for the Justice League.

Even though Leto's Joker didn't get many appearances in the DC Universe, the actor remains hopeful and has spoken about how much he loves bringing the iconic comic character to live-action.

Speaking with Variety, while promoting his latest MCU film, Morbius, Jared Leto revisited his time playing the Joker in DCEU.

Leto explained, “That role was an opportunity of a lifetime. And I got a chance to do it twice.” The actor adds, “For me, they’re like living, breathing people. I know they’re not, of course, but I get attached. It’s a shame to never do it again.”

Will we ever see Jared Leto's Joker again? At the moment, there isn't any announcement from DC about Leto's future involvement in the franchise. For the new Batverse following The Batman, still, under development by Matt Reeves, the director announced that Barry Keoghan is set to play the Joker for the new Batman universe. If ever Leto comes back, he can reprise his role as the Joker in either Suicide Squad spinoffs or Justice League sequels.

For now, we can catch Jared Leto in his new venture into the MCU as Morbius, releasing in theaters on April 1.
