Weeks before his interview, Kushner and Trump were also photographed on their way to the Mayo Clinic, where the former had his surgery.

"They were in Minnesota for Jared to have a scheduled check-up at the Mayo Clinic, not exactly a romantic date night by any stretch of the imagination. Jared has to travel there periodically for monitoring and testing to ensure his thyroid cancer hasn't returned. Ivanka obviously traveled with him to offer support as his wife," a second source said.

Jared Kushner Initially Kept His Diagnosis A Secret From Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump

In his book Breaking History: A White House Memoir, Kushner detailed the moment when he found out that he had thyroid cancer.

"On the morning that I traveled to Texas to attend the opening of a Louis Vuitton factory, White House physician Sean Conley pulled me into the medical cabin on Air Force One. 'Your test results came back from Walter Reed,' he said. 'It looks like you have cancer. We need to schedule surgery right away,'" Kushner wrote (via E! News).

At the time, Kushner also shared how he tried to keep his cancer diagnosis a secret from his wife and father-in-law.

"Please don't tell anyone—especially my wife or my father-in-law. This was a personal problem and not for public consumption. I didn't tell anyone at the White House – including the president," he wrote.

Kushner eventually shared the harrowing news with his wife and father-in-law. In fact, one day before his first surgery, Donald called him to his office to ask how he was feeling.

"The day before the surgery, Trump called me into the Oval Office and motioned for his team to close the door. 'Are you nervous about the surgery?' he asked. 'How do you know about it?'" he replied.

"I'm the president. I know everything. I understand that you want to keep these things quiet. I like to keep things like this to myself as well. You'll be just fine. Don't worry about anything with work. We have everything covered here," Trump reportedly told his son-in-law.
