James Wan's Mortal Kombat Film Set For 2021 Release Date

Good news for Mortal Kombat fans: A new live-action adaptation of the video game franchise is officially happening and has already been given a 2021 release date.

The Premiere of South Australia Steven Marshall announced in a press release that the Mortal Kombat movie will be filmed in the city of Adelaide. Aquaman director James Wan has been confirmed to produce the flick along with Simon McQuoid, who will helm the adaptation. New Line Cinema's pre-production is already set for late May while production is expected to begin later in 2019. The screenplay is being written by Greg Russo.

Amazingly, Deadline has more exciting news. A new report confirms that Warner Bros. has already given the movie a 2021 release date.

As of writing, there have been no casting announcements yet. However, we will keep you updated as soon as we get new details.

It's certainly turning out to be a busy year for Wan. It was previously reported that the Conjuring director will serve as executive producer for the new Netflix show adapting the streaming giant's comic book series The Magic Order. Wan is also the executive producer for DC Universe's Swamp Thing and his new horror flick Annabelle Comes Home is expected to hit theaters this June. In addition to that, Wan will produce Aquaman 2, which is scheduled for 2022.

The official title for the Mortal Kombat movie has not yet been announced. Nevertheless, the film is already scheduled for release on March 5, 2021.
