James Wan Says Aquaman Fans Should Stop Attacking The Movie’s Detractors

Aquaman might be the king of this year's Christmas box office, however, Jason Momoa's watery standalone still brings in a few staunch critics, detractors who've apparently been bullied by fans online.

Responding to reports that Aquaman fans have been attacking the film's critics on social media, DC director James Wan decided to take to Twitter to keep the ruckus under control, telling the film's fanbase to put an end to harassing netizens that didn't enjoy the DC Extended Universe entry.

But that wasn't his only request. While the Aquaman director told his followers that it was alright for audiences to criticize his film, Wan says there isn't any need for detractors to attack him personally or tag him in tweets about how much they hate the film.

It's a pretty positive response to all the hubbub going on online. Everyone has different tastes, so it isn't right for Aquaman fans to pile on the dissenters. But this doesn't necessarily give detractors the right to attack Aquaman's cast or crew. We can all be civil, can't we? We can disagree peacefully.

Meanwhile, in other Aquaman news, the new DCEU entry continues its winning box-office streak. Not only did the film beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther during the Christmas Box Office, it also outperformed Suicide Squad, becoming the DCEU's third highest earning installment. Industry analysts expect the film to earn at least $1 billion at the worldwide box office during the end of its theatrical run, but the jury's still out on that one.

Aquaman is currently screening in cinemas.
