James Wan Asked Zack Snyder’s Blessing For Aquaman Movie

Zack Snyder might have been the first to introduce Jason Mamoa's Arthur Curry into the DC Extended Universe, but it was James Wan who turned him into Atlantis' King. While the tone for Snyder's version of the character might have been very different from Wan's, the Aquaman director was given the blessing of the founder of DC's burgeoning superhero franchise.

Speaking an interview with Collider during a Q and A session about Arthur Curry's very first standalone film, Aquaman director opened up about gaining the seal of approval from inaugural DCEU filmmaker, Zack Snyder, saying that the helmsman had given him his blessing after seeing an early cut of the movie.

Though the cut Snyder had seen didn't have the completed VFX of the theatrical version of the film, the director seemed to understand what Wan was gunning for.

"Yeah, I showed Zack [Snyder] my Directors Cut pretty much right after I finished it and he gave me his thumbs up. He was really complimentary about it. He basically gave his blessing to me to go finish the movie, because he knew how huge of an undertaking I had with the visual effects," Wan told the publication. "What he saw was a lot of blue screens, a lot of pre-viz and a lot of storyboards. You photograph your storyboard's and you cut it into the film and so it was very very rough and crude. But, I think the human element is there that played and I think he and Debbie [Snyder] were very complimentary about it. They gave us their blessing."

While Snyder still produces for the DCEU, the director no longer seems to be in charge of the franchise. That's why it's lovely seeing Wan approaching Snyder to ask for his blessing, showing the filmmaker an early cut of Aquaman. We can't wait and see what Wan has prepared next for the DCEU.

Aquaman is currently screening in cinemas.
