Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn is arguably one of the most brilliant filmmakers we have right now, I think we can all agree on that fact but he apparently has a reputation of being a "control freak" behind-the-scenes, something Marvel star Dave Bautista recently opened up about while promoting his latest Netflix project Army of the Dead.
In an interview with JoBlo, Bautista had this to say about his good friend and GOTG director: "James is a control freak. Have you guys all met with him? He's very much a control freak... which I don't mind because he's a great director. Like, he's a brilliant director and he's a brilliant storyteller. So I'm okay to give myself to guys like that and I trust them."
Now, weeks following the former WWE superstar's insightful interview, Gunn took to social media to hilariously throw shade at the actor who's set to reprise his MCU role as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In his latest Instagram story update, the director can be seen wearing a shirt that has the words "control freak" printed on it, seemingly confirming the confession Dave made about him. Despite being labeled that, Gunn is actually beloved by his colleagues, so much so that they're willing to go to extreme lengths just to back him up. In 2018, Bautista was among the first people to voice his support for Gunn after Disney fired him from the Marvel franchise following the resurfacing of his old "controversial" tweets. He even went as far as threatening the company that he would walk out of the next Guardians project if Gunn isn't reinstated. That alone speaks volumes on how people see the director.
Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for release on May 5, 2023.
