James Gunn Speaks Up on Fans Shipping Peacemaker and Vigilante

In a chat with Variety, James Gunn was given a question on the friendship of Peacemaker and Vigilante coupled with a comment that it goes beyond and back the line between bromance and romance. Gunn said, "I understand how you could think that Vigilante is in love with Peacemaker. I'm not sure how I would see that Peacemaker's in love with Vigilante.

Gunn added, “Peacemaker, to me, he just seemed irritated by Vigilante for eight episodes, for the most part. I mean, there's times when he cares about him. He doesn't want him to die in Episode 7. I don't know that that's love. I mean, it's a kind of love."

The series confirmed that Peacemaker isn’t straight and since the start of the show, the friendship of Peacemaker and Vigilante is something that has been one that flourished as the episodes go by. While it may seem platonic in the show, fans started shipping the two of them, which is quite weird because Peacemaker has Harcourt, right?

Well, Vigilante and Peacemaker are the kind of friends that could share anything with each other, even a woman, as seen in the second episode. But what they have is nothing in the sense of being a romantic one, it’s just a genuine friendship that Vigilante kind-of forced onto the titular hero being an avid fan and one that he learned to fully accept in return.

It blossomed into a real friendship and just like what Gunn said, it is a different kind of love, not a romantic one, possibly a real platonic friendship between them and they genuinely care for each other. In the end credits of the finale of Peacemaker, it even showed that Vigilante also cares for the other members of the team, in this case, Economos. It just goes to show that while he didn’t start as a member of the team, he ended up as one that they learned to cherish.
