Peacemaker Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: What Happened in the Finale?

In Peacemaker Season 1 Episode 8, It’s Cow or Never, Leota came clean on Peacemaker as she planted the fake diary under the express instruction of her mother, Amanda Waller, and even when she did the order, she felt as if she betrayed her friend. She tells him that despite his cockiness and his sarcasm, he remains haunted by the sins of the past.

The plan is this: they take on the Butterflies by killing its main source before it gets teleported and they’d be using the sonic-boom helmet of Peacemaker to kill it. Seems like a bright idea, isn’t it? However, their plan got ruined when Eagly accidentally dropped it in the forest and they try to find it for hours. Peacemaker cannot handle it anymore when visions of his father flashed through him.

When they got the helmet, they decided to stay low and Economos tried to fake it being a Butterfly. Of course, he was discovered by another Butterfly who asked him why he dyed his beard. He reasoned out and it was so sad that it became awkward.

Peacemaker, Vigilante, and Harcourt made their way through where the Butterflies are as they set off sonic booms through the helmet. However, Vigilante and Harcourt got severely injured by it. Leota finally got her action scene when she saved Harcourt from a Butterfly and she also brought the human torpedo helmet of Peacemaker.

It was enough to get the attention of Goff who has the body of Detective Song. The Butterfly head revealed to Peacemaker that they were from a planet that became abandoned because it is not possible to live there anymore so when they arrived on Earth, their first thought was to make it their new home. They found out that there are people in power who will put their pockets first over the survival of the people.

Peacemaker has this ideology that he would kill anyone in the name of achieving peace and it showed flashbacks of him when he was a child and when he killed Rick Flagg. Goff saw this in him and felt that Peacemaker could be an ally, they made a promise to save Earth. However, Peacemaker, instead of helping them teleport the cow to safety, activated the human torpedo helmet and shot Locke and Song.

Just as the action dissipated, the Justice League arrived. Leota exposed Project Butterfly in a press conference. Harcourt remains alive but she was in critical condition at a hospital. When she woke up, she realized that Peacemaker never left her side. As for Economos, he was employed at Belle Reve.

Peacemaker got his freedom back and he returned home with Eagly. He still has Goff with him and he feeds him some amber nectar left. However, he remains haunted by the ghost of his father.

The episode is a perfect mix of a beginning in the end. While an alien invasion was stopped, the whole crew got a new start with almost everything. As satisfying as the end of the show, it opens another chapter in their lives and now that a second season has been given to the show, there is more to the story of the 11th Street Kids.

Peacemaker Season 1 Episode 8, the finale, is currently streaming on HBO Max.
