The Ending of Peacemaker Season 1 Explained

Peacemaker Season 1 ended with a blast in Episode 8, “It’s Cow or Never.” If you think that they didn’t stop the alien invasion, thankfully, they actually did. All of their efforts didn’t go to waste as they did not fail in killing the cow, however, things were a little uncanny with the events leading to their success.

Goff, the head of the Butterflies living inside Detective Song, understood the main ideology that Peacemaker has wherein he would stop anyone who would ever try to stand between him and peace, and he would not spare anyone to reach his goal. This is the same as that of the Butterflies, but for them, it concerns their whole survival as species.

With this, Peacemaker got their attention and they thought of him as an ally, perfect for him to launch his human torpedo helmet and finally kill the huge cow.

As for the other members of the team, Vigilante and Harcourt were badly injured due to the sonic booms from Peacemaker’s helmet. Leota got her shot at redemption when she saved the life of Harcourt and handed to Peacemaker his human torpedo helmet. In the end, she exposed the whole Project Butterfly in a press conference. Economos got a new job at Belle Reve.

Harcourt had her recovery at a hospital and she deeply appreciated Peacemaker when she learned that he never left her side. Peacemaker and Eagly are free now and he is back to his trailer, still haunted by the ghost of his father.

Even when they stopped a whole alien invasion, way ahead of the Justice League who arrived fairly late, they all got a new start in life. Leota came back to her wife and dogs, Economos having a new job, Harcourt making a recovery, and Peacemaker is now a free man. Still, it doesn’t erase the fact that they are now facing bigger demons, especially with Peacemaker still not over his father despite his death.

With Season 2 officially confirmed and on the way, surely, there is more to the adventures of the team. The end perfectly sets up a new chapter in their lives with Leota exposing the project, Harcourt starting over, and Peacemaker still living with the trauma of his past.

Peacemaker Season 1 finale is now streaming on HBO Max.
