The idea of Marvel and DC Comics setting aside their storied "rivalry" and doing a crossover film project will forever remain a dream to a lot of comic book fans and while the saying goes that we should never say never, the chances of it actually happening in the near future are pretty slim.

Now, if you'd ask director James Gunn what he thinks about a potential clash between Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, it's safe to say that he's on board with the concept.

On Twitter, a fan toyed with the idea of the Marvel and DC teams going toe-to-toe against one another in one explosive film. Obviously, Gunn couldn't pick a side given how near and dear both franchises are to his heart so when asked which team he thinks will win, he simply responded to the Twitter user by saying that the fans will end up in triumph if that crossover ever happens. When you think about it, the GOTG and Suicide Squad have a lot of things in common and it'll be really interesting to see both groups go at it on the big screen. But that's all just wishful thinking for now. Meanwhile, Gunn's days in the MCU may actually be numbered with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 potentially being his final Marvel film. It's safe to assume at this point that he'll make a full jump to the DCEU to continue helming the Suicide Squad franchise and while he claims that his filmmaking days are over after GOTG 3, I strongly believe that a number of DCEU projects are still lined up for him.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad hit cinemas and HBO Max on August 4, 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on the other hand is slated for release on May 5, 2023.
