James Gunn Seemingly Confirms More I Am Groot Shorts Are Coming To Marvel

Now that James Gunn is done with his last Marvel project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it does leave MCU fans questioning whether he would come back if the studio were to pitch any spinoffs for the Guardians.

Gunn admitted that before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came to fruition, the idea was to make a Groot & Rocket movie first.

However, Marvel Studios, specifically Marvel boss Kevin Feige, had to scrap the idea, thinking it would be “too much” for the franchise.

Well, lo and behold, with MCU fans swarming over Gunn’s Twitter page, one fan asked on his future plans for the animated series, I Am Groot, “Are we getting more ‘I am Groot’ episodes? And are you still involved?”

To that, Gunn responded, “I think you’re getting more,” with a catch, “But I’m not involved.”

Disney+ released a series of animated shorts titled I Am Groot on the platform, which centered on Flora colossus from Planet X.

The show was filled with high praises for the show’s humor and wit, reviewed by critics and audiences.

It wouldn’t make sense not to involve Gunn in making new episodes for I Am Groot, considering he created the series, however, he did previously confirm that the animated shorts are “not necessarily part of the Guardians saga.”

While Groot is indeed a member of the Guardians, Gunn described the animated series, “They’re a canon to themselves, I’d think.”

It remains to be seen if we are still going to see Gunn back for another round for the Guardians, whether or not in their own franchise or in joining the future Avengers films, but one thing’s for certain.

The Guardians director plans on adopting his stars into the DCU once he picks out their own respective roles in his new DC slate.

Meanwhile, you can watch Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 now out in theaters worldwide!
