James Gunn Reminds Fans that Beloved Guardians Character Will Not Return in Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's production start date is just around the corner and everything is looking promising so far, especially with the grand arrival of Adam Warlock to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, if you're expecting deceased characters from the franchise to turn up in the threequel, director James Gunn won't allow anything like that to happen.

Earlier this year, Gunn broke a lot of fans' hearts when he confirmed that fan-favorite character Yondu won't be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Obviously, we all saw him die a heroic death in Vol. 2 so it's clearly impossible that he'll turn out to be alive in the upcoming project.

However, fans have noted the fact that resurrection exists in the billion-dollar franchise, and with all the magic stuff going on in the MCU, it'll be easy to bring Yondu back from the dead. One fan even jokingly told Gunn that no one stays dead in the Marvel Universe unless you're Uncle Ben.

Unfortunately, Gunn remains firm regarding his sentiments on a potential Yondu reemergence. Responding to the fan, the director of The Suicide Squad reasserted that he has no desire of bringing back Michael Rooker's character in the MCU as long as he's helming the projects. He wrote: "As I've said many times before, as long as I'm a part of the Guardians, Yondu is dead, 100%, forever, no magic resurrections. Any other way would be belittling his sacrifice and what his story means to so many people."

Well, I guess that pretty much seals the deal on Yondu's fate. I mean, as much as I'd like to see him return in the flesh, I totally agree with what Gunn said that bringing him back will diminish his sacrifice. This is why I'm also not in favor of bringing Tony Stark or Natasha Romanoff back to the franchise despite the multiverse being a thing.

Meanwhile, the MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
