James Gunn on Whether The Suicide Squad Would Be the Same as Guardians

It looks like The Suicide Squad's tone is going to be a whole lot different from Guardians of the Galaxy.

While most DC fans are eager to see what kind of cards Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn might bring to the DC film universe with his reboot sequel of David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie, others seem to be concerned that The Suicide Squad may end up having the same tone and the same feel as the filmmaker's Marvel film series.

Addressing fans concerns about his film in a question and answer session on Twitter (via ComicBook.com), Gunn decided to answer a question asking whether The Suicide Squad might "be in the same vein as Guardians in humor and music."

"No, it's its own thing," the filmmaker confirmed.

Guardians of the Galaxy's sense of humor might be loved by fans, but we're glad to hear that Gunn is trying a different approach for The Suicide Squad. We want the film to be unique. To do "its own thing." It would be terrible if Gunn just recycled his old style for DC.

Right now, Gunn is busy working on the production of The Suicide Squad. The film was mostly shot in Atlanta, Georgia, however, the production is set to move to Panama in the next few days. We're hoping that we get to learn more about the film as principal photography continues.

The film is set to star Suicide Squad oldies like Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney. It's also set to welcome newcomers like Nathan Fillion, Idris Elba, Michael Rooker, Peter Capaldi, John Cena, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, David Dastmalchian, and of course, Taika Waititi.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.
