James Gunn Had More Involvement in the MCU Than You Might Think

James Gunn recently said his goodbye to the MCU with the newly-released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, his last film in the franchise and the last entry in the titular team's trilogy, as he is now serving as the co-chairman of DC Studios.

There is no doubt that Gunn made a big contribution to the MCU as he was able to set the tone for the cosmic part of the universe starting with the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. We also know that he consulted in other films that featured the Guardians of the Galaxy team such as the last two Avengers films.

Speaking recently with TheWrap, Gunn reflected on his time in the MCU, especially during the time when he served as a consultant in the non-Guardians of the Galaxy films.

The now-DC Studios chairman revealed that he actually consulted in all MCU films such as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and many more as a "friend" and "team player."

"I was consulting on everything. I was consulting on all the Marvel movies. Kevin would send me the script for Spider-Man and I'd give my notes," he said.

"He'd send me the script for Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and I'd give notes on all of those scripts. It was really as a friend and as somebody who was a part of the team and a team player."

Looking at the friendship between Gunn and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, it is not surprising to hear that the former was consulting in all MCU movies, especially since he also has a vast knowledge of comics and, obviously, he is a talented filmmaker as well.

Gunn's move to DC is certainly a huge loss for Marvel Studios considering the countless contributions that he gave to the franchise ever since he joined during its earlier years.

However, despite that, Gunn also clarified that there is "no rivalry" between the two comic book franchises and he is still good friends with Feige and the team at Marvel Studios despite heading a rival comic book movie studio.
