DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has debunked a recent casting rumor surrounding a villain role in The Batman Part II.

Weeks ago, it was rumored that Logan star Boyd Holbrook has been cast to play Harvey Dent in the highly-anticipated sequel. However, it was not confirmed by anyone involved in the making of the film.

The rumor made its way around the web in lieu of the recent announcement that the film's release has been delayed to 2026 as production is now slated to begin early next year.

A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads regarding the alleged casting of Holbrook as Harvey Dent in The Batman Part II.

The Superman director responded and confirmed that the rumor was "fake."

When asked by another fan to explain whether the rumor was floated by Holbrook's team, Gunn answered by saying that it might just be an "honest mistake" made by the website behind the report.

He wrote, "No I don’t think this has anything to do with Boyd and his people. Sometimes it’s an honest mistake by web sites who’ve gotten false info (although they’re jumping the gun journalistically) & other times it’s just made up for clicks. I don’t know which one this is."

There we have it, Holbrook's rumored casting as Harvey Dent in The Batman Part II is not true at all and it seems that director Matt Reeves has not started his casting session yet for the film.

It is likely that we will start hearing the casting news for the sequel later this year or in early 2025 when they're closer to the start of production.

There is still a possibility that Holbrook might end up being cast in the film although, for now, we can rule him out as the new Harvey Dent and fans should patiently wait for news and updates regarding the progress of the sequel.

The Batman Part II is slated for release in theaters on October 2, 2026.
