James Gunn Confirms That a Major Cosmic Marvel Hero Almost Debuted in Guardians of The Galaxy 2

Guardians of The Galaxy 2 was James Gunn's last MCU project after he took a long break from Marvel’s superhero franchise. Now that Gunn is back to helm the Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, the GOTG franchise is at the top of the well-acclaimed director's mind, revealing some details from the upcoming film and even from the previous ones.

On Gunn's official Twitter page, the director responded to a fan and revealed that he almost included Darkhawk in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. After being told that Darkhawk should be the director's next project, the director directly admitted that Christopher Powell aka Darkhawk almost made it to the GOTG2.

Prior to GOTG2's release, Gunn was asked multiple times if either Adam Warlock or Darkhawk might appear in the film, mainly because the two characters are originally tied to the Guardians in Marvel Comics.

"I think it was not very well thought out because I'm getting questions about [it]. 'Is Darkhawk in the movie because of the Marvel Legends figure? Is Adam Warlock in the movie because of the Marvel Legends figures?'" Gunn said in 2017. "All you need to do is look at the packaging, you guys. On the packaging cover, it says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on the figures that are from the movie and it doesn't say Vol. 2 on the other figures. So that should tell you what's from the movie and what's not."

Thankfully, Gunn officially teased a glimpse of Adam Warlock in 2017's Guardian of The Galaxy 2's post-credit scene and the character will make his official debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, starring The Maze Runner star, Will Poulter.

James Gunn is back to direct Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, which will also be the franchise's final film. GOTG3 is still currently filming and reportedly pushing a 2023 release date.
