James Cameron Reveals Story Details for Avatar 2

With Alita: Battle Angel finally out in theaters, James Cameron can focus his work back on the sequel to his 2009 hit Avatar. We have a vague idea of what to expect in the film, but Cameron himself has given us a few story details thanks to a recent interview.

Talking to Empire, Cameron describes one scene in the movie including Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Cameron explains:

"There's a three-page argument scene between Jake and Neytiri, a marital dispute, very, very critical to the storyline… I wound up shooting it all from the point of view of the eight-year-old hiding under the structure and peeking in."

It's worth noting that this story will be focusing on a younger cast, and at least for now we have an idea that the two at least have one daughter. It's still likely that they have more kids, and we'll be exploring the undersea culture of Pandora instead of the one Na'vi who control the skies.

For now, Cameron has wrapped filming for the motion capture aspect of the film and is gearing up for the live-action part. He goes on to say:

"[Performance-capture] is the vast majority of the characters, and that is the vast majority of the running time of the film… That pesky little live-action component is going to cost me five months of my life, across the two movies."

The first Avatar sequel is set to come out Dec. 18, 2020.
