James Cameron Plans To Unseat Avengers: Endgame As The Highest-Grossing Movie Of All Time

Avengers: Endgame might have been able to achieve the impossible this year when it unseated Avatar as the highest-grossing film of all time, but filmmaker James Cameron doesn't plan for the film to stay there very long.

According to a report by the USA Today,Avatar director James Cameron plans on rereleasing the epic science fiction movie to celebrate the film's upcoming sequel. Not only will Avatar's re-release remind fans around the world about a highly successful property that's held on to the number 1 spot at the box office for a decade, but it may also help the movie unseat Endgame which is now the highest-grossing film of all time.

In his interview with the publication, Cameron seems certain that Avatar will put Endgame in its place once it gets its rerelease soon.

"I think it's a certainty," the filmmaker told the entertainment news outlet, "But let's give Endgame their moment and let's celebrate that people are going to the movie theater."

The director seems very confident about Avatar winning back the spot, even though comic book movies seem to reign supreme in this day and age of the Hollywood industry. Still, Cameron's confidence isn't misplaced. While Endgame managed to rake in $2.79 billion at the box office after its theatrical release, Avatar still has $2.78 billion. The film only needs more or less than $7 billion to unseat Endgame.

We're not quite sure when Cameron plans to rerelease Avatar, however, the filmmaker seems intent on dropping the film again before Avatar 2 hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
