WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer recently opened up about the Scarlet Witch's villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The hit MCU sequel saw the fan-favorite character become the main villain after she was corrupted by the power of the Darkhold. She presumably "died" at the end of the film and it was recently addressed in Agatha All Along.

While Elizabeth Olsen's performance was widely praised, some fans were not happy with the characterization of the Scarlet Witch as they believed that it was not in alignment with her arc in WandaVision.

In a recent interview, Schaeffer was asked to weigh in regarding her thoughts on the Scarlet Witch's villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

She gave a diplomatic response by explaining that she didn't have any control over the character after what was done in WandaVision.

"I love Wanda and I love all the characters that Iā€™ve had the privilege of working with; Natasha [in Black Widow], Carol Danvers [in Captain Marvel], everybody," the writer said.

"But one of the agreements of being part of the MCU is you're kind of borrowing characters and storylines for a time."

Schaeffer continued, "You get your experience with them, and then things continue, which is one of the wonderful, special things about the MCU. A lot of my friends and colleagues were on that film."

"I feel grateful for my time with [Wanda] and just hopeful for more of her in any way that that might happen. And really just more of Lizzie [Olsen] in anything, sheā€™s so spectacular."

While Schaeffer's response might seem too safe, she gave a great point that this has always been part of the Marvel Studios process, and all she can do as a writer is to work on her own project and do the best characterization on the sandbox that she was assigned to.

She is reportedly attached to co-write the long-rumored Scarlet Witch solo movie, but Marvel Studios has not confirmed the project's existence.

It would be interesting to see if Schaeffer will indeed have another shot to write for the character and resurrect her from the dead.
