Wizards of the Coast is pushing the exploration theme of the next Magic: The Gathering set Ixalan by giving players a purpose to explore our own world. According to Wizards, they will be distributing trackable pieces to shops, fans, volunteers, and friends who will travel with Magic fans.
So how do they work?
"After receiving a game piece, participants will activate and log the game pieces on Geocaching.com, take photos, and place them into a geocache container to start them on their explorative journey. Geocache containers stay in one place for the duration of their lifecycle, while the trackable game pieces move from container to container," Blake Rasmussen writes. "Once the trackable pieces have traveled a certain distance, new Ixalan preview cards will be unlocked for the community."
Ixalan's four main tribes have been revealed but they probably shouldn't surprise fans who have seen the concept art for the upcoming set. The four main tribes are Dinosaurs, Pirates, Merfolk, and Vampires. According to Wizards, each tribe will have their own set of trackable pieces, and the distance traveled will make an impact later during Rivals of Ixalan, the small set following Ixalan.
