IU Lands Lead Role On Drama Adaptation of Webtoon, Money Game

IU bloomed even more as an actress after starring in Dream High and more television series.

South Korea treated IU as the Nation's little sister following her debut as a singer. Now, she is known as The Nation's Sweetheart as she grows up while expanding her career, too.

After trying acting in 2011, she went on to star in more series and films, including You Are the Best!, Bel Ami, and The Producers. She then landed titular roles in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Persona, and Hotel del Luna, among others.

Nearly three years after appearing in a TV project, IU prepares herself to act again as she had been cast to star in a new drama.

IU Lands New Role in Money Game

representative for Naver Webtoon revealed on Friday that the Good Day hitmaker was tapped to join the star-studded cast for the upcoming webtoon-based drama, Money Game.

IU would reportedly work with several A-listers, including Bae Sung Woo (Beasts Clawing at Straws), Park Jung Min (Hellbound), Ryu Jun Yeol (Lost), and Park Hae Joon (The World of the Married), in the drama. Money Game will be an eight-episode series that follows Bae Jin Soo's creations, Money Game and Pie Game.

It explores the story of eight participants who join the game where money builds while time passes. The contestants face extreme games that lead to betrayals as it only ends when someone dies. It also highlights the participants' mental health issues as they try to win the prize money.

IU has not addressed the new project yet. But it would be her first drama since starring in Kim Jong Kwan-directed movie, Shades of the Heart, where she played the role of Mi Young.

Who Will Work Behind the Camera?

Aside from the award-winning cast members, the team will also get help from people who will work behind the scenes.

The Face Reader and Emergency Declaration director, filmmaker Han Jae Rim, will work on Money Game's script and directing. Studio N, meanwhile, will be responsible for creating videos for Naver Webtoon. It previously produced critically-acclaimed Sweet Home, Yumi's Cells, and Our Beloved Summer.

Lotte Cultureworks will focus on investments while acting as co-producer.

Money Game will start its production in the first half of 2022.
