April faced the same fate DSP Media's girl groups went through.

In 2015, the label introduced the six-membered girl group through their EP Dreaming and title track Dream Candy. They continuously released more EPs and singles afterward, giving their fans fresh music in Spring, Prelude, Eternity, The Blue, The Ruby, and Da Capo – the latter became their last EP after releasing it in 2020.

Unfortunately, the girl group will no longer appear in music shows anymore as DSP Media confirmed their disbandment after nearly seven years of promotion.

April Announces Disbandment

DSP Media delivered the heartbreaking news on Friday, saying that the girl group had disbanded following a long deliberation.

According to its exclusive statement, the K-pop group's members decided to have April disband so they could continue their journey separately.

"We ask that you give lots of support and interest to the six members, who will be walking a new path that is not part of APRIL. Furthermore, we would like to once again thank the fans who supported and cheered on APRIL for the past six years," the statement went on.

The announcement was somewhat surprising, as the news came after Rainbowbridge World (RBW) announced on Wednesday that it acquired DSP Media CEO Choi Mi Kyung's 39.13 percent state in the entertainment company for $7.5 million.

The transfer will reportedly start on March 31, and RBW CEO Kim Jin Woo will soon act as the CEO of DSP Media. Currently, they still plan to acquire DSP's stake of at least 51 percent before signing a SPA (stock purchase agreement) with its largest shareholder.

RBW previously acquired WM Entertainment, as well.

But April's disbandment remains heartbreaking, as it happened while they are only a few months shy of their supposed 7th anniversary.

What is the 7-Year Curse in K-pop Industry?

So far, only a few K-pop groups – like Shinhwa, BTS, and EXO – have managed to survive the infamous 7-year curse in the K-pop industry.

Most idols sign seven-year contracts ahead of their highly-anticipated debuts. With that, the curse is about the idols deciding whether they will extend their contracts or ultimately disband instead.

So far, only a few K-pop groups beat the curse and continue to promote nowadays. For April's part, their journey was cut short with their shocking disbandment.
