IU spoke about how her 2018 tvN Kdrama series My Mister became the turning point of her decade-long career.

Although IU debuted as a singer, she expanded her career and became an actress. She marked the beginning of her acting career in the hit Kdrama series, Dream High, and it led her to land more roles in the TV and film industry.

But among the flicks she became part of, My Mister reportedly played the biggest role in her career.

IU Looks Back at My Mister Character

During a Thursday interview with The Korea Times, the Good Day singer said My Mister helped her to play more complex characters in the past years. Although her characters are all unforgettable, her role as Ji An in the series expanded her capacity to try diverse projects.

"To me, every character is unforgettable. But I would say Ji-an's character role in 'My Mister' allowed me to take on a diverse slate of projects," she said.

My Mister explores the story of a woman who takes care of her deaf and sick grandmother while working on a temporary job. She shares an unlikely bond with one of her supervisors, but it becomes the center of manipulation and scrutiny in her workplace.

The series won the Best Drama award at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.

After My Mister, IU appeared in more series, including Persona, Hotel del Luna, Shades of the Heart, and the 2022 film Broker.

She also compared her My Mister role with her Bel Ami character. According to the singer-actress, the show was not successful, but the role she had inspired her character in her 2023 film, Dream.

IU Says She Like Dream Message

Dream is about a football coach named Hong Dae, played by Park Seo Joon, who trains a team of homeless people in the Homeless World Cup. IU plays the role of TV director Somin in the film. She aims to create a documentary about South Korea's first homeless football team.

Upon learning about the Homeless World Cup through the script, IU said she immediately loved Dream's message.

"I first learned about the Homeless World Cup through the script and was surprised to find out that it is based on a true story. Seeing the photos of real-life people at the end of the script was very moving," she said.

IU's movie with Park Seo Joon will premiere on April 26.
