An anonymous complainant filed charges against Korean singer IU for allegedly plagiarizing six of her songs. Lee Min Soo, the songwriter of her tracks “Good Day” and “The Red Shoes,” finally speaks up about the issue.

IU was accused of plagiarizing her hits “Good Day,” “The Red Shoes,” “Pitiful,” “Boo,” “BBIBBI,” and “Celebrity.” However, her agency, EDAM Entertainment, revealed the artist wasn’t aware of the accusations until she saw it in the headlines.

IU’s Songwriter Speaks Up About Plagiarism Accusations

Lee Min So finally broke his silence about the plagiarism claims surrounding the 29-year-old.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 11, via AllKpop, the songwriter refused the malicious claim.

He said,

“Yesterday afternoon, I read an article that said, 'Good Day' and 'The Red Shoes,' IU's two songs that I wrote, were accused of plagiarism.

I refuted the issue concerning 'The Red Shoes' in a press release when it was released in 2013 and have refrained from commenting further as it would be pointless. However, due to recent unreasonable criticism towards the artist, I am carefully leaving this message.”

Lee Min So stressed that the two songs weren’t plagiarized.

He explained,

“I didn't reference or think of anyone else's song when working on 'Good Day' and 'The Red Shoes'.

As the songwriter of 'Good Day' and 'The Red Shoes,’ I hope this does not hurt anyone's heart, especially IU's heart and the hearts of those who love IU.”

A Smear Campaign Against IU

The mysterious complainant claimed IU previously dismissed their copyright violation concerns, prompting them to opt for legal options, per The South China Morning Post.

But the “eight” singer has already rejected the plagiarism claims.

The label, alternatively, admitted it had yet to go through the police report, and the issues surrounding its talent were probably part of the long-running smear campaign against her.

“We came across news articles of [IU] getting reported to the police for plagiarism but received no official contacts from the investigative agency, and we didn’t yet check the content of the aforementioned indictment,” EDAM said in a statement.

Hence, the company also warned of taking legal action against the man behind the copyright infringement allegations against IU if it wasn’t true.
