IU proved that she is one of the soloists who got the warmest hearts following her recent move for the K-drama, The Sound of Magic.

From being South Korea’s Little Sister, IU grew to become The Nation’s Sweetheart, who serenades the fans worldwide. Since her debut in 2008, she has already established collaborations with several writers and producers to make her music.

But most of the time, she also spends her time and effort composing, recording, and singing her own songs. One of the tracks she made alone recently brought magic to The Sound of Magic.

IU Gives Netflix’s The Sound of Magic Her Song Knees For Free

Amid the rising popularity of The Sound of Magic, the Netflix K-drama earned more attention when it suddenly played IU’s song, Knees, at the end of one of its episodes.

While the singer’s voice is enough to praise her, the series director revealed a shocking secret that made people love IU more.

On Monday, director Kim Sung Yoon revealed in an interview that the Blueming singer allowed the series to use her original song, Knees, for free.

"At the ending scene (of one of the episodes), we used the song 'Knees'. But in order to do that, we have to actually purchase the copyright to release 'Knees' worldwide through the series,” the showrunner said.

During his call with IU, the singer told him that he could use the song without giving her any fees for the copyright.

Why Did IU Give Knees For Free Revealed

Director Kim Sung Yoon took his time to reveal why IU gave her song for free.

It turned out that IU and the director previously worked before through the singer’s acting debut in Dream High. In addition, she reportedly revealed that she wrote and composed the song herself, so the team could just use it.

"So, I contacted IU for permission. But she said, 'I wrote and composed the song myself, so please feel free to use it.' I was so thankful. IU and I got to know each other while filming 'Dream High' together,” he said.

The Sound of Magic currently stays at No. 4 on Netflix’s TOP TV Show Worldwide.
