The Ishura anime is an action fantasy series that’s based on the ongoing light novel of the same name. Its story is set in a fantasy world where the Demon King has been defeated.
In this world, Shuras are powerful beings who have the power to match up to the Demon King. With him gone, the Shuras are now free to conquer lands or simply ignore whatever is going on.
After the True Demon King’s death, there were new ones that have popped up. These are called the self-proclaimed Demon Kings. Their goal is to rule a land without having royal blood.
They can do this because the land’s balance of power is in flux.
Who Are the Self-Proclaimed Demon Kings in Ishura?
In the anime, the only self-proclaimed Demon King shown so far is Taren the Punished. She is a former general of Aureatia who formed the New Principality of Lithia.
The conflict between Aureatia and Lithia is the focus of the light novel series’ first volume, and it is what the anime is currently covering.
This is a major clash, though the story seems to also be building up a major battle royale between the Shuras.
Other self-proclaimed Demon Kings are Kiyazuna the Axle, Morio the Sentinel, and Izick the Chromatic. They are introduced in the later volumes.

Who Killed the True Demon King in Ishura? Possible Theories
For now, it’s not clear who killed the True Demon King in Ishura, though it’s fair to say that one of the Shuras was behind it. After all, only Shuras have the power to do so.
As for who was the killer, some believe that it may be Soujiro the Willow Sword given that he’s from another world. In the same vein, Dakai the Magpie is also from another world that fits the bill.
It could also be Taren, as her goal is to unite the world under her rule, though there’s no strong hint about this yet.
Details about the True Demon King’s killer may be revealed as the story continues in the anime. The Ishura anime gets new episodes weekly on Disney+, Hulu, or Star+, depending on the region.
