Is Yuji and Sukuna the Same Person in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Jujutsu Kaisen is illustrated and written by Gege Akutami. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and fans can collect the chapters in sixteen tankobon volumes as of this writing. It follows the story of Yuji Itadori who joined a secret organization comprised of jujutsu sorcerers after he ate a cursed finger.

The said finger belonged to Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful curse. This curse had an evil nature which is why all sorcerers must exorcise him when they have the chance. After Yuji swallowed the finger, he became the host of Sukuna. But how can an ordinary high school student be a vessel of a powerful curse, unless they are the same person?

Is Yuji and Sukuna the Same Person in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Fans have a lot of theories regarding Sukuna and Yuji’s relationship, but there is still no confirmation whether or not they are the same person or if they are related at all. Fans will have to wait for further updates on the story to know the truth behind their identical faces and why Yuji is the vessel of Sukuna.

One factor that led fans to think that they are the same person is that Getou once said that binding contracts must be done with yourself. As Jujutsu Kaisen fans are aware, Yuji and Sukuna have a binding contract so how was this possible? Some argue that the reason for this is that they share the same body, making it a contract with oneself.

Another weird connection between the two is the fact that Yuji can control his body despite being possessed by Sukuna. But Sukuna cannot have full control over Yuji’s body and soul. Will this change after Sukuna’s 20 fingers are collected?

As of chapter 147, Yuji had consumed 15 fingers of Sukuna. While this has shown that Sukuna has gained immense power as compared during the start of the series, it appears that he would still need the remaining five fingers to gain full power and fully take over Yuji, if he will push that path. There is still a possibility that he will find another host or the manga will just reveal that they are basically the same person.
