Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 11 shocked fans by reintroducing a long-gone antagonist. So is Toji Fushiguro dead in Jujutsu Kaisen, and what does his return mean, exactly?

Is Toji Fushiguro Still Alive?
Until fairly recently, Toji Fushiguro was presumed irrevocably dead.
After seemingly dying at Toji Fushiguro's hand, back in the Hidden Inventory flashback arc, Satoru Gojo bounced back to fight his nemesis.
Gojo was unable to save Riko Amanai, but he did duel Toji a second time, this time emerging victorious.
There's no indication that Toji survived his fight with Gojo. The latter's Hollow Technique: Purple Attack is rather deadly.
That was until Toji reappeared in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 11. So, just what has happened?
Was It Really Toji We Saw in Shibuya Arc?
Improbable as it might seem, Toji did come back during the Shibuya Incident.
Amongst the many chaotic and cursed events of the shounen anime's darkest arc, the return of a villain from the dead isn't even the worst.
Indeed, we've seen the real Toji, but it's complicated. As is often the case with Jujutsu Kaisen, something complicated happened.
How Did Toji Come Back?
Ogami, a curse user whose freedom was limited after Satoru Gojo's birth, brings Toji back after Gojo gets sealed.
During the Shibuya Incident, Ogami and her grandson work with Pseudo-Geto. Ogami performs a seance to transform her grandson into Toji Fushiguro.
With Toji's strength, the grandson, who had been protecting Ogami while she performed the seance, defeats their enemies. However, Toji Fushiguro permanently takes over the grandson's body.
This is not what Ogami had intended as she had wanted to summon Toji's power, not his soul.
To her surprise, Toji responds that he was able to take over because he has something special before proceeding to single-handedly kill Ogami, confirming it was really him all along.
What Does Toji's Return Mean?
We won't spoil much about the dark and twisted Shibuya Incident's future episodes. But Toji Fushiguro's return is an additional complication, especially now that Gojo isn't available to stop him.
This means that the assassin could now wreak havoc in Shibuya.
Toji's body is programmed so that he is compelled to seek the strongest sorcerer in Shibuya and fight them mindlessly until his body is destroyed.
Who will that be now that Gojo isn't in the picture?
Toji's quest might inevitably lead him face to face with his son Megumi — with possibly devastating consequences.
