With the new Spice and Wolf anime comes a lot of excitement, as well as many questions. For one, many are wondering if the new anime is a Spice and Wolf sequel. Moreover, some are wondering if the original light novel and manga series also have sequels.
To answer that, it’s first important to understand the current status of the different versions of the story.

Are the Spice and Wolf Light Novel and Manga Finished? Status Explored
While Spice and Wolf became hugely popular thanks to the original anime over a decade ago, it began as a light novel series back in February 2006.
Unlike some light novels that don’t get proper conclusions, Spice and Wolf’s story got a proper epilogue in volume 17. There, the future of Holo and Lawrence was revealed.
Since then, more light novels have been released in the form of the Spring Log volumes. These feature short stories set after the main story’s events.
Along with the light novel, there’s also the manga adaptation, which was serialized between September 2007 to December 2017.
The manga makes some changes to the light novel and has a faster pace, but its overall story is the same as the novels.
Much like the light novel series, the manga also showed Holo and Lawrence’s touching epilogue, though it has not adapted the Spring Log parts.

Is the Spice and Wolf 2024 Anime a Sequel?
One of spring 2024’s most anticipated anime is Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, a new adaptation of the story by Passione (of Ishura and The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy fame).
As it’s a new adaptation, it’s more of a remake instead of a proper sequel to the original two-season anime.
Interestingly, the 2024 anime’s first episode makes it kind of like a sequel of sorts. That’s because it shows Holo telling her and Lawrence’s story to a young girl, effectively making the show’s events a flashback.
It’s not confirmed in the anime yet, but the young girl is believed by fans to be Myuri from the Wolf and Parchment series.

Is Wolf and Parchment a Spice and Wolf Sequel?
Wolf and Parchment is a new ongoing light novel series that follows Myuri, Holo and Lawrence's daughter.
In a way, this is a sequel to the original series, though many readers consider it more of a spinoff. After all, even though it’s set years after the epilogue, it follows mostly new characters and has a standalone story.
