Jon Favreau has set the record straight on whether the fourth season of The Mandalorian is still happening ahead of the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu.

While fans have been looking forward to the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters next week, there are still some lingering questions about whether the Disney+ series will continue or if Din Djarin and Grogu will be big-screen characters from this point on. To this day, Lucasfilm has been mum about their plans.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Favreau opened up about the original scripts that he wrote for the planned fourth season of The Mandalorian and explained how he turned them into a movie.

"I looked at the scripts. [Dave Filoni] looked at the scripts. It was not a movie. So we had to start from scratch, and I pitched the new version of what it was because it also has to be for people who didn’t see," he said.

"For Season 4, people saw the show, they saw Ahsoka, and now this one, it’s got to be like, no, you should be able to watch it if you’ve never seen Star Wars."

Lucasfilm co-CEO and The Mandalorian and Grogu co-writer/co-producer Dave Filoni shared the challenges of doing a standalone Mandalorian movie that is accessible to the general audience.

"So there’s different levels for everybody, but for a film, we felt it was important that it be like an accessible point for anybody that maybe had even just heard of Mando or Grogu," he said.

"You know, you might own a Grogu, and maybe you didn’t watch the show, that’s possible, so this is your big chance to come in. And then it’s still all there for you waiting on Disney Plus anyway, and you can go any kind of avenue you want."

The question for fans now is whether the fourth season of The Mandalorian is still happening after the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu.

When asked by Variety at the Los Angeles red carpet premiere yesterday, Favreau responded, "It’s a good question. You should talk to Dave Filoni over there because he's running the show now."

What to Expect in The Mandalorian and Grogu

In The Mandalorian and Grogu, the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, Jonny Coyne, Martin Scorsese, and Steve Blum. The Clone Wars character Embo is expected to make an appearance.

It is slated for release exclusively in theaters and on IMAX on May 22. It is the first Star Wars theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
