Update as of 9/9/2021: Season 6 is coming! We don't know exactly what's coming to Call of Duty in Season 6, but there will be a Season 6.
As of April 2021, Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is ongoing and scheduled to end in October of 2021. In November 2021, Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to launch, and an entirely new map is also set to come to Warzone. Officially, there hasn't been a formal announcement about what's next for Black Ops Cold War or Modern Warfare, but we can make informed predictions.
Is Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 Coming?
Warzone is the most popular, most successful Call of Duty game out today, and the game is getting a new map inspired by the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard, so Warzone will continue to receive live service support for a long time to come. Warzone continues to receive major content updates, like 120FPS support on PS5 which was recently added.
Is Season 5 the Last Season for Modern Warfare?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released in 2019, which by the time of Vanguard's release will mark the game's second anniversary. Though Modern Warfare sold incredibly well, quickly becoming one of the most popular games in the franchise, the game's live service support has been ramping down for a while.
Updates aren't particularly frequent, and most updates to the game aren't major content drops. Plus, longstanding changes gamers want to see in Modern Warfare, like a better party system or competitive mode, haven't come to the game either.
Even if Modern Warfare does get a Season 6, it's unlikely the game is ever going to receive major content updates again. Though, it's reasonable to assume Activision will sunset Modern Warfare in the not-too-distant future to make space for more recent Call of Duty games and the inevitable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Will Black Ops Cold War Get a Season 6?
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War released in 2020, which by the time of Vanguard's release will mark the game's first anniversary. Though Black Ops Cold War sold well, it did not do nearly as well as Warzone or Modern Warfare. Black Ops Cold War has received lots of new content during its first year on the market, from new guns to new maps to new modes and much more, much like Modern Warfare did in its first year out.
So, while it's likely that the second year of Black Ops Cold War's live service support will see less content added to the game, it's also likely Activision will continue to support the game. Though, whether this is a Season 6 or a reset back to another Season 1 in conjunction with the first season of Vanguard remains to be seen.
