Recently, news broke that like on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, Call of Duty: Warzone for PS5 would be receiving 120FPS support. Since then, 120FPS support has been added to Warzone on PS5, but 120FPS support has also been added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS5.
Does Modern Warfare PS5 Support 120FPS in Every Mode?
From the campaign to Spec Ops to the entire multiplayer suite of Modern Warfare, it’s all playable in 120FPS on PS5. On top of that, while Warzone’s graphically demanding royale can see FPS can dip into the 90s on PS5, in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer the framerate is extremely consistent.
While what resolution the game renders at on PS5 is dynamic, in 120FPS mode the game usually renders around 1500p, while in 120FPS mode on Xbox Series X the game is upscaled to 4K from 1920 x 2160. For both consoles, this is a meaningful upgrade in resolution from the 1080p of the Xbox One and PS4 generation.
How to Enable 120FPS Support in Modern Warfare PS5
Since a PS5 firmware update made the process much easier, enabling 120FPS support in games on PS5 only takes a couple of clicks and is mostly automatic.
To take advantage of the 120FPS mode in either Warzone or Modern Warfare on either console, you’ll need a compatible monitor that supports 120FPS. There isn’t an official list of 120FPS compatible displays on PS5, so make sure to do an online search and check that your display works with 120FPS on PS5 and doesn't have any known problems.
For other Call of Duty games, like the recently announced Call of Duty: Vanguard, if they support 120FPS, the feature will also be enabled in those games by completing the above steps.
