Rick Sheridan (played by Jonathan Groff) was initially introduced as William Clockwell's boyfriend, and coming to visit at Upstate University was their chance to get to know each other better.

Rick was shown to be the "typical jock and alpha male" who loved William and would do anything to protect him, even from a simple bully in class.

Little did he know that the class bully was none other than D.A. Sinclair, a villain from Invincible season 1 who strived to turn humanity into the "greatest innovative weapon" in history.

In this case, Sinclair targeted Rick to become a part of his underground science project, by transforming him into one of his army of cyborgs.

The only thing that snapped Rick back into his original personality was when William jogged his memory, by recalling the time they met last year summer by the lake and had sex by the water.

However, this doesn't entirely fix Rick back to who he was. He was physically and mentally a complete mess. But as for whether he becomes a villain in the series? Well...

By Invincible season 2, Cecil "fixed" Rick Sheridan by turning him back into the seemingly same Upstate University student he always looked like, back to when William first met his boyfriend.

Rick could speak normally and looked like his old self, but he didn't feel the same. It's the typical existential crisis, despite William's efforts to make everything seem fine.

However, by season 2 episode 6, Rick admits he "still sees flashes" of Sinclair's face and his scalpel: "It's like I'm watching someone else's nightmare. Am I... me again, William?"

Although William keeps trying to comfort and support him, Rick's fate remains uncertain for now. We'll have to keep watching more as season 2 unfolds the mystery behind his new life as an ex-cyborg villain.
