Is Netflix’s Daredevil Canon in the MCU?

One of the frustrating things Marvel has to uphold is the power the canon world holds within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Such that the X-Men Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), both have had to clear up just how big of a part they are in the franchise’s entirety.

Now, another series is looming in, expected to already be canon in the billion-dollar franchise, however, it seems to remain a blur: Is Netflix’s Daredevil series canon in the MCU? Let’s find out.

Daredevil’s Status in the MCU Explained

Charlie Cox’s appearance as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home could have easily confirmed his character’s involvement in the MCU long ago, but still, is this really the same Daredevil we’ve watched on Netflix?

There could be a slight chance that this Matt is wholly different from his persona in the Netflix series, perhaps even a variant of himself from a parallel dimension. However, it gets a little bit on the nose when he returns to the MCU in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

There were a couple of instances pertaining to Murdock’s canon story from the Netflix series, however, this Man Without Fear had a fling with Jennifer Walters, which evidently retcons his will-they-won’t-they romance with Karen Page.

Marvel and Disney’s recent reports imply that Daredevil: Born Again may take a while before it continues filming the series. Whether the series is going to be a continuation of the original or a reboot of Matt Murdock’s story, however, remains unanswered.

So, Is Netflix’s Daredevil Series Canon in the MCU?

Marvel's Daredevil 'reboot' still hasn't received an official release date, but rumor has it that we won't be seeing Hell's Kitchen's Man Without Fear debut until 2024, especially since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are still ongoing.

According to multiple MCU insider sources, Daredevil: Born Again is planning on canonizing some of the elements that occurred in the Netflix series, more specifically, one particular event that happened in Season 1. Check out the tweet below:

However, this was later clarified by another prominent MCU insider and confirmed by Jack McBryan, the co-founder of The Direct:

Apparently, Daredevil: Born Again will be directly connected to one special moment from Netflix’s Daredevil Season 1, in which later was revealed that the MCU Daredevil reboot will not only refer to that one event.

In fact, the entire original series will be canonized in the franchise, instead!

Considering that the Man Without Fear has already debuted in the billion-dollar franchise, it’s only a matter of time before Daredevil officially (and canonically) becomes a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
