Honest Thief is one of the newest films available on Netflix. The action thriller stars Liam Neeson as Tom Carter, who is a seasoned thief who falls in love with Annie Sumpter (played by Kate Walsh).
With so many movies getting based on real life events, we can't help but wonder if Honest Thief is based on a true story. Here's what we know.
Is Honest Thief Based on a True Story?
Unfortunately, Honest Thief is purely a work of fiction. Neeson stars in this film as a character that's almost too familiar with his other movies. But for writer/director Mark Williams, Honest Thief is a different film for Neeson since there is drama involved. While he is a thief, Neeson's character is one who is seeking redemption. Most importantly, the main focus of the film is the love story between Carter and Sumpter.
In an interview with The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Neeson explained why he signed up for the movie:
“When we were making the movie, I was hoping they’d change the title because it was too on the nose. It’s about a thief who wants to become honest because he’s met this extraordinary woman played by Kate… That’s the bedrock of this story. It’s what drew me to the script.”
As for Walsh, this is an entirely new genre for the actress having mainly played dramas in the past. The actress is most known for the Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice, as well as her very pregnant role in Emily in Paris.
In Honest Thief, she does her own stunts. Williams revealed that there was a scary moment where Walsh flew into a bookshelf. The director believes Walsh did not know how demanding doing her stunts would be like but since she was a very committed actress, she rose to the challenge.
