Kate Walsh believes Grey’s Anatomy will succeed even after Ellen Pompeo’s exit. As one of the show’s OGs, the actress returns to the 19th season to reprise her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery.

Addison returns to her old stomping grounds, believing she will once again feel the presence of her ex-husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey). However, nothing like that happens, though she manages to have a deeper connection with Meredith Grey (Pompeo). So, what does she think will happen to Grey’s Anatomy now that Pompeo is gone?

Kate Walsh Shares Hopes for Grey’s Anatomy

In an interview with People, Walsh hoped the long-running series could “continue” even after Pompeo left the show.

"The storylines are so strong,” she said at the New York City premiere of Emily in Paris. “The new interns this season, I love that they're all fallible and messed up, and so that makes it, I think, a lot more interesting.”

Aside from the interns and attendings, some OG stars, like Walsh herself, returned, too.

“That's been really fun, and also just the writing has never been stronger on the show," she continued.

The 55-year-old had no hesitations about returning to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 after talking with its showrunner Krista Vernoff.

"They were very empowered about really talking about what's happening in culture with women and women's health," she explained.

"And they really went into that, I think, in an incredible way,” she added. "So, the episodes that I'm working on are so powerful, so I'm really so excited for people to see."

Ellen Pompeo’s Grey’s Anatomy Exit

Pompeo has left Grey’s Anatomy but that decision isn’t final yet. She continues to narrate the series, and she will also return to the Season 19 finale.

She also promised fans, via ScreenRant, that she would still visit the show and reprise her role as Meredith.

She, too, will remain connected to the series being the show’s executive producer. However, the time may come when Grey’s Anatomy will focus more on its new batch of interns.

Pompeo revealed the need to do “something new and try different things.” Though she has been grateful for the opportunities the series has given her, she has been in the show for so long and is excited to “mix it up with different projects.”

Pompeo’s last episode as a main cast member will be out on February 23. It will also serve as her farewell episode.
